Kitchens: Contemporary & Kitsch and Transitional & Traditional

April 28, 2014

Kitchen design has evolved much like everything else has today, however, design genres have fused forever, melting together styles that once stood on their own. Modern, contemporary and transitional mean different things to different people. Traditional, Mediterranean and Provincial work together, blending the wish lists of many homeowners as they embark on a new kitchen renovation. And anyone who says that something doesn’t “go” simply doesn’t have your vision!

Schrapper’s stays on top of what is current and the latest in trends. Yet, Beverly and Keith lead a team of designers, as well as work with independent designers, and ultimately come up with customized, unique kitchen designs every day.

  1.    Note the interesting mix of medium toned hard woods in this contemporary kitchen, where art glass pendent lights reign over a multi-faceted island, topped off in ebony granite. The hardwood flooring is two-toned adding a strong feeling of warmth and hominess.
  2.    White and stainless pair together for a clean, minimalistic and understated look in this prep kitchen. The subway tile, backdrop to the stove and range, adds texture to counter balance the smooth surfaces throughout. The open, trestle-style, island is suitable for housing pots and pans, cookbooks or supporting dangling feet while sitting on bar stools.
  3.    And the look of a white kitchen never ceases to please. With a contrasting floor and countertops, these mainly white kitchens are cool and breezy, never losing their appeal. Lighting, seating and strategically placed colorful accessories complete a look that is both contemporary and transitional.
