February is Library Lovers Month

February 19, 2013

Curling up in an overstuffed armchair with a good book is one of life’s pleasures. Most cities have a library stocked with thousands of volumes of literature and educational reads but, in reality, you needn’t venture far from home when wishing to partake of this literary pleasure.

Library Spaces
Your interior or fine cabinetry designer can give you a library in a number of ways regardless of the amount of space available.

  • Walk-In Closet: This is one way of storing your books and finding a quiet and cozy place to read. With improved lighting and a smaller sized comfortable chair you are ready to delve into a mystery or adventure in the unexpected domain of a closet in transition.
  • Under a Stairwell: These areas are notorious for wasted space. Shallow cubes stacked at an angle, pendant lighting, a warm wool rug on the floor and a comfy sling-style stool is all you need.
  • Sharing Space in a Den: Niche spaces should not be overlooked. Take a quadrant of your great room and frame it with see-through book shelving. A standing reading light peeking over a small-framed wing chair round out this modular style library.

A Room Called Library
When space is not an issue, a library can be one of the most visited rooms of the house. It’s not only for reading. You can converse, play chess or other board games, listen to music or conduct research on your computer.  Libraries are known for certain features, yet taste is individual. Regardless if your expectations are the traditional warm woods, earth-tone fabrics or leather and floor to ceiling stacks; or if minimalist glass and wood or metal and sleeker styled furnishings are your preference, a good designer can create an ambient room that is your library.
